Vulture Rescue and Rehabilitaed

Every morning when you wake up, you hear the voice of birds chirping. Millions of bird species are out there. They live mostly in trees or the holes of buildings. Mostly they lay eggs in the spring season. But sometimes they get hurt by the attack of the predator or becomes orphan when their mother is killed and sometimes they are sick and needs proper care and treatment. If you find a baby bird on the ground, you will need to understand the two things whether the baby bird needs your help or not. First, you need to need to know that if the baby is injured, and the second thing you need to know if the bird is a nestling or a fledgling.

Is the baby bird hurt?

If you have observed that the baby bird is wounded you will need to take him to the licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Oklahoma immediately. Always treat the bird as injured if he feels cold with its eyes open, bleeding, looks exhausted, droopy, and dehydrated. If do not know that the baby bird is injured or healthy then call the wildlife rehabilitator and ask them for advice. Always contact the rehabilitator before visiting them.

Is the baby bird is fledgling or nestling?

When you know that the baby bird is not injured then you need to know that if the baby bird is a fledgling or nestling? This will help you to make a decision so fledgling may

  • Bird looks like an adult but not able to fly
  • Look like he is having feathers but he may or may not be a little fluffy.
  • Feels difficulty in its movements.

Nestling also may,

  • Birds have no feathers
  • Have pin feathers having dark beginnings of feathers and looks like pins.
  • Have feathers but too fluffy
  • Looks like that its body is too big for its small wings.

How to save a baby bird?

Sometimes nestling falls out of the nest and needs help so they can go back to their nest. Mother birds are not able to pick them up and put them back in the nest. Baby birds cannot survive outside their nest. So there are some steps that you need to follow,

  1. After finding the bird, search for the nest and if you find the nest then, search for the other babies and check that if they resemble the one you have found.
  2. If you find the resemblance then place the baby in the nest with your hands.
  3. Always check for more babies and if there are any then pick them u and put them back into the nest.
  4. After putting them back wait for the parents to return and check if they are feeding the all babies. Do not stand too close to the nest while you are watching this because once they will notice your presence they will hesitate to come back to the nest.

What if the parents don’t return?

If you have waited for enough and you see that they have not returned yet then call the wildlife rehabilitator in Oklahoma. Sometimes the entire nest may have been destroyed or blown down by the wind. Then you need to give the bird to the wildlife rehabilitator.

What to do as a rehabilitator?

If you are unable to contact the rehabilitator than,

  1. First of all hydrate the baby bird with the formula and for the formula you should contact the wildlife rehabilitator and ask them what to feed the baby bird.
  2. You can easily pick up the bird without getting afraid because they can’t cause any harm to you.
  3. Mother birds feed their children every half an hour so they get habitual of that habit. When you are rehabilitating you need to feed them after every one hour at least.
  4. You must consult the veterinarian before you feed the baby bird.
  5. When you are rehabilitating the bird, you should construct an artificial nest by putting the thin branches of trees and recycled fur.
  6. If they are featherless then it might get cold so, you need to put a heating pad under the nest so that it can remain warm.
  7. When you see that it is healthy now and will be able to fly within 2-3 weeks then you should put it into the cage. Place the fresh branches of trees, in this way they will open their wings and try to fly.
  8. When they are becoming adults, offer those worms, and small insects. Birds love to eat small insects. In this way, their body and health will be good.

Release:

When you see that a bird is eating the insects and can fly within the cage then you can release it into the environment. Take the cage near the trees where there are already birds. Open the door of the cage and let it come outside. After coming out of the cage, watch it that if it can fly properly.

This is the way you can rescue and rehabilitate a baby bird.
